Korean American Seniors and Elders during 2026 Chuseok Festival
KASCAH seniors and elders playing Yutnori (윷놀이)

On September 25, 2026, Korean seniors and elders from The Korean American Senior Citizens Association of Houston, (KASCAH) across the Houston community gathered to celebrate Chuseok (추석), Korea’s Harvest Moon Festival—a special time of gratitude, family, tradition, and community.

KACC Houston Chamber members were honored to join the celebration and spend time with our Korean seniors and elders. As part of the festivities, KACC Houston sponsored traditional songpyeon (송편), the crescent-shaped rice cakes traditionally enjoyed during Chuseok. Sharing food is an important part of the holiday and provided an opportunity for everyone to enjoy a taste of Korean tradition together.

For KACC Houston, the celebration held special meaning because many of the elders gathered are part of the first generation of Korean settlers and business owners who helped build Houston’s Korean-American community.

Over the years, these pioneers have contributed to Houston in countless ways—as restaurant owners, CPAs, artists, realtors, entrepreneurs, and other professionals and business owners. They established businesses, raised families, created jobs, and helped lay the foundation for the Korean-American community that exists in Houston today.

Spending Chuseok with these elders was therefore an opportunity not only to celebrate Korean tradition, but also to recognize and honor the contributions of those who came before us.

A Day of Tradition, Games and Community

The celebration was filled with laughter, games, prizes, and fellowship. Seniors participated in Yutnori (윷놀이), one of Korea’s best-known traditional games. Yutnori is a traditional board game played by tossing four wooden sticks, with the results determining how far each player's pieces move around the board. It is commonly enjoyed during Korean holidays and family gatherings, including Chuseok.

The seniors enthusiastically participated in the games, cheered one another on, and enjoyed raffle prizes and other activities throughout the celebration. Community members, friends, volunteers, and KACC Houston members all came together to share in the festivities.

For KACC Houston, participating in Chuseok with our elders is about more than celebrating a holiday. It is about honoring our heritage, recognizing the pioneers who helped establish our community, and strengthening the relationships that connect generations of Korean Americans in Houston.

As our Korean-American community continues to grow, it is important to remember the people who helped pave the way. Chuseok provides a meaningful opportunity to pause, give thanks, celebrate together, and pass our traditions on to future generations.

KACC Houston is grateful to have been part of this meaningful Chuseok celebration and to share this special day with our seniors, elders, friends, and community members.
